In the framework of «Women Leadership in Local Governant-II»
Training conducted on “Increasing women participation in municipal elections ” in Oguz, Gakh, Gabala
On 02-04 of December 2014, Public Union "Women for Development of Municipalities" and Independent Consumers Union held trainings in Oguz, Gakh and Gabala regions on Strengthening women participation in municipal elections in the framework of «Women Leadership in Local Governant-II»
Trainings were designed for those who will to take part and whose already withdraw their candidacy in forthcoming municipal elections on December 23.
Wide range of discussions revolved around the role and participation of women in public and political life. Here, women's suffrage and the municipal election campaigns, planning and organizing election as well as its observation and awareness of the Mayor's duties were discussed.
It should be noted that this project is financed by United States Agency for International Development / (USAID) and implemented by Counterpart International in the framework of Women's Participation Program (GWP).
The main objective of the Women's Participation Program is as indicated in UN Conventions` (CEDAW) final report for Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women, strengthening public awareness and participation of women in political life on priority issues. The Project implemented in the cooperation with the State Committee on Family, Women and Children Issues.
It should be noted that in 2014 the “Women’s Leadership in Local Government II", a project aimed at improving women's participation in political and socio-economic processes.
To achieve these goals, our main objectives are as following:
- · Expansion and further development of Coalition that created in the framework of project «CEDAW-7b»;
- · Capacity building for women leaders for more active participation in society for the political and public issues;
- · Carry out Advocacy activities for strengthening women's leadership;
- · Active participation of women in electoral processes, the promotion of achieving to a greater number of seats in the parliament and municipalities;
- · Starting wide collaboration on Women's participation and strengthening gender policy in Azerbaijan;
With its presence in the regions, the project will cover more awareness raising activities for women and increase women` knowledge and skills to be informed about their rights in order to engage in political processes as well as will ensure women active participation in the upcoming municipal elections and in general will promote for women's leadership.
